Public Computers At The Central Library
The Central Library offers 119 public computers for searching the
Internet, checking e-mail, using Microsoft Word and other programs,
and accessing information from electronic databases. PCs are available
on a first-come-first-served basis on all floors. There is no time limit
except for designated Express Computers, which can be used for up to one
hour. To use an Express Computer, please check in at the nearest public
service desk. There are also several PCs reserved for searching subject-specific
databases in the Business and Sciences Department (3rd floor) and the
History Department (4th floor) and for use by teens in the Humanities
Department (2nd floor). Please ask department staff for details about
using these. The Central Library also provides Internet access to customers
with personal laptop computers.
Standard-size black-and-white ($0.20/page) and color printouts ($1.00/page)
can be made from any of our PCs by purchasing a Library Printing Debit Card.
Card vending machines and print stations are located on each floor. The 3rd
floor print station also offers 11x17 color printouts for $1.50 per sheet.
Our public service staff will be happy to assist you in purchasing a card
and in sending and retrieving your print jobs.
The library Internet Use Policy and the
Computer Assistance Policy apply
at the Central Library and all branches. Computer classes are also available
to assist people wanting to learn basic PC skills and Internet search techniques.
