Bookstock 2013 Authors - Scott to Shukriyyah

Author Sherri Scott is coming to Central Library on Saturday, October 5 for Bookstock 2013.Sherri Scott is a native Memphian, a writer, mother, student, and motivational speaker.

Her debut novella, Never Cast Your Pearls, was released in May 2013 and is a faith-based novel for teens. It combines two of Scott’s great passions, romance and encouraging youths to make positive life choices. The storyline follows seventeen-year-old Taylor Monroe, who took a vow of celibacy that will be seriously tested when she meets Jared Pinkston, the local “it” guy.

Scott will promote Never Cast Your Pearls at Bookstock 2013 on Saturday, October 5 at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library.

Author Robert Shepherd, Jr. is coming to Central Library on Saturday, October 5 for Bookstock 2013.Robert Shepherd, Jr. is an author, poet, and Gospel evangelist. He was born in Arkansas but has been a resident of Memphis, Tennessee since 1988. Shepherd is a man with many talents and skills who worked as an appliance technician, repairing washing machines, dryers, stoves, and other home appliances for many years.

Shepherd said reading and writing have been his passions since childhood. While in high school, he wrote numerous short stories and songs. After becoming an adult, Shepherd said he was inspired by God to write his personal testimony, The Power of Grace, a book detailing his journey through drug addiction, his recovery, and deliverance through God’s help.

Since then, Shepherd said God has given him the insight to write other books such as By My Spirit, The Pursuit of Holiness, The Power of Love, Exposing the Devil and others. At Bookstock 2013 on Saturday, October 5 at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, Shepherd will promote his book Exposing the Devil.

Shepherd also helps other writers to self-publish their literary work through his publishing company called “In Tune with His Spirit.”

Author Shukriyyah is coming to Central Library on Saturday, October 5 for Bookstock 2013.Shukriyyah, a food enthusiast, comes from a long line of cooks and people who enjoyed preparing delicious meals. Her great grandmother owned and operated a sundry in Little Rock, Arkansas. Shukriyyah’s other grandmother was also well known for her signature fried chicken, and her father earned the “Best Cook Award” in the Armed Forces. Lastly, Shukriyyah’s mother started cooking in the South for Europeans and was soon promoted to head cook in one of the major lunch diners, a big deal in those days.

Shukriyyah said these influences inspired her to get into the kitchen, where she decided to add healthy and nutritional ingredients to tasteful meals she compiled into her cookbook Southern Soulful Veggie Recipes.

Shukriyyah will promote her cookbook at Bookstock 2013 on Saturday, October 5 at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library.
