When Shelby County Schools open their doors to students, the Whitehaven Library will have something special in store for their teen students. Beginning in August, the library will have a functional teen space open to ages 13 to 18 – Teen Haven. Armed with invention kits, Wi-Fi enabled laptops, iPads and tablets, a PlayStation 4, and other various fun activities, the Whitehaven Branch Library is ready to follow the same path of Cloud901 at the Benjamin Hooks Library. “The benefit of having this for our teens is so that they will have a way to creatively express themselves,” says Whitehaven Librarian Vishunda Rogers. “Another benefit will be a way to help teens connect. Teens will be able to make friends with others who have similar interest.” From 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, Whitehaven will provide the facility, devices, and Cloud901 trained staff to make the space a reality. With the creation of Teen Haven, Whitehaven hopes to help satisfy the STEAM goals set forth by the Libraries strategic plan.
