"I don't mind checking
out books for my classroom, but that means there's no
room left on my card for books for me!"
You may
apply for a special library card that allows you to check
out 50 items at a time! You'll have room on your record
for books for your classroom, as well as plenty of books
for your personal and professional reading!

For professional or parenting
information about young children.
These materials can help you with questions
about child development, ideas for thematic curriculum,
potty training, home schooling, and more.

"I need six books on the
rainforest!" An easy enough request to fill, but now
imagine 20 students all with the same request!
Advance notice of an assignment will help us
to insure the availability of materials on a specific
subject your students are researching..
Assignment alerts help us to be prepared
with the materials and give all students access to the
information they need. Fill in the form to let us know
your preferences and help us help you.

"Lets
go to the library!"
Please schedule your
group's visit to the library in advance. This will help
us make sure that your library experience is the best it
can be. Call the
library in your service area for information about
how they can best help your students.

Suggestions
for a smooth class visit to the library:
- Bring adult helpers
with you to assist your students in finding the
information they need.
- Make sure that the
adults are filled in on what will be expected of
them and how they can best help the students.
- Allow enough travel
time to be on time for your appointment.
- Remember that the
regular library using public will still be in the
building.
- Prepare your class to
use "company manners" and their
"library voices".
Here's a description of
someone we love to see!
- Miss Jane schedules
her class visits in advance.
- Her students are
prepared. They know why they are coming to the
library, and have a basic knowledge of using the
computer catalog and research tools. (A special
learning tour can help your students learn these
skills)
- Miss Jane stays with
her class and works closely with them.
- Miss Jane had briefed
her students about "library behavior"
and maintains control of her students.
- Miss Jane's students
are welcome at the library, and so is she!
For the Younger
Set (PS-3rd
Grade)
Young folks are welcome at
the library, too. Many
branches can help classes in their service area find
a time to come to the library for group storytime, a
puppet show, a special program, or instruction on how to
find information in the children's collection. Advance
scheduling is required to insure that your class visit to
the library is interesting, appropriate, and fun!
