On Thursday, February 1st, the North Library welcomed five 1968 sanitation strikers, who shared with a room full of Library customers their personal accounts of the Civil Rights Movement in Memphis and fond memories with Dr. King.

After the “I AM A MAN” program, customers browsed the “Mountaintop Collection,” an exhibit by Rev. Michael O. Hollowell with more than 2,500 items from the Civil Rights Movement.

On February 8, the American Legacy Mobile Truck Exhibit visited the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library. American Legacy tells stories of great black men & women whose struggles, triumphs, & accomplishments compose America’s history and continue to empower. Sponsored by American Legacy and hosted by Memphis Urban League in partnership with Memphis Public Libraries.
