Limiting to an Author, Title, Subject, etc.

Limiting your search to a specific index is a good way to eliminate any undesired results. If all you have is an author, then why search all of the fields of our records when you can limit your results to just those records that include your search terms in the Author field?

If you are using a Quick Search, you can select a certain index from the drop-down menu:

The Advanced Search gives you the most options to limit or refine your search.  You can combine search index elements such as keyword or phrase, author, title, subject, series, or periodical title. Use the drop-down list arrows to select other available search options.

Type a General Keyword or phrase for a typical search.

  • Type an Author to search for the name. You can search for an author by the first name, last name, or initials. However, searching by an author's last name produces a more complete list of search results.
  • Type a Title to search for an item by title. The search ignores articles as well as other stopwords.
  • Type a Subject to search the subject index.
  • Type a Series to search for a series title.
  • Type a Periodical Title to search the periodical keyword index.
