Digital Bookmobile stops by Central Library

A virtual world at their fingertips, visitors to the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library recently had an opportunity to tour a 74-foot big rig, complete with high-definition monitors, state-of-the-art sound systems, media players, and Internet-connected computers. On a nationwide tour, the Digital Book Mobile stopped by the Library to promote downloadable Audiobooks.  “This is a service that does not replace the brick and mortar building,” said Digital Library Specialist Renee San Jose. “It is a new way to keep patrons interested and to recruit new patrons.”

This interest, teamed with curiosity, is what drove avid readers like Matthew Ison and his wife Kimberly to the Book Mobile. “I’m always looking for something new and interesting,” Matthew said while exploring high-tech gadgets and gizmos on the tractor trailer. “I’m looking forward to checking out what is available,” he said.

Library customers have 24-7 access to download Audiobooks in the Digital Media Library at www.memphislibrary.org/e-audio.
