Books & Beyond
Memphis Medicine: A Century of Science and Service highlights the
developments and medical contributors' history of the improvement of the health care system in Memphis and the Mid-South.
Patricia LaPointe McFarland and Dr. Mary Ellen Pitts will present and discuss their new book titled Memphis Medicine: A Century of Science and Service on Tuesday, March 20 at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library at 10:15 am.
McFarland is a retiree of the Memphis Public Library & Information Center where she was the curator of collections in the Memphis and Shelby County Room. She has written numerous books and articles on local medical history. One of her earlier works includes From Saddlebags to Science A Century of Health Care in Memphis 1830-1930.
Dr. Mary Ellen Pitts has taught at Western Kentucky University and served as head of the English Department. Pitts is currently an English Professor at the University of Memphis.
