Opening Doors Panel Discussion

MPLIC Hosts Panel Discussion for Opening Doors
Opening Doors: Contemporary African American Surgeons will host a panel discussion Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 6 pm at Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library. Local prominent physicians and surgeons will discuss improving the overall health of Memphians and encouraging and empowering young African Americans to join the medical field.

“It is important for young people to learn about the contributions of these extraordinary Memphians,” said Wang-Ying Glasgow, Adult Services Coordinator for the Memphis Public Library.
Dr. Melrose Blackett will serve as moderator for the panel discussion. Panelists for the discussion include Dr. Reginald Coopwood, President and CEO of the MED; Dr. Clarence Davis, Blue Cross Blue Shield; Dr. Jarvis Reed, President of Bluff City Medical Society, Internal Medicine Physician; Dr. Marilyn Robinson, Pediatrician; and Dr. Beverly Williams-Neal, Endocrinologist.
Topics for the panel discussion include pediatric obesity, cancer updates, infant mortality, Healthcare Equity: Access to Care, Insurance, and Hospital Care. Some of the goals are to decrease healthcare disparities, seize the keys to better health, and encourage and empower young people to enter the medical field.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Jessie Marshall 415-2733.
