These classes are designed for those currently involved in a nonprofit or those planning to start a nonprofit. Introduction to Fundraising Planning
Does your organization need help directing its fundraising efforts? Planning focuses your organization by setting fundraising priorities and helps give staff and board members a roadmap to success.
This introductory class, offered in partnership with WHEREtoGIVEmidsouth.org, will provide you the basic steps for developing a fundraising plan, including tips on:
- Making your case for support
- Diversifying your organization’s fundraising base
- Creating a plan of action

Foundation Directory Online: An Introduction to the Premiere Grantseeking Database
This hands-on session will provide an introduction to the Foundation Center’s subscription database, where you will learn how to:
- Create customized searches and develop targeted lists of potential funders
- Find grants available for your subject area or field of interest
- Identify grantmakers that fund in your region
- Search specific foundations for detailed information
Introduction to Finding Grants
Free workshop highlighting The Foundation Center’s “10 Most Important Things You Need to Know About Finding Grants”.
Are you new to the field of grantseeking? Discover what funders are looking for in nonprofits seeking grants and how to find potential funders in this introductory course.
You will learn the 10 most important things you need to know about finding grants, including:
- Who funds nonprofits and what are their motivations.
- What do funders really want to know about the organizations they are interested in funding.
- How do you identify potential funders and make the first approach.
The class will also offer hands-on, guided grant research using The Foundation Directory Online, the premiere grantseeking database.

Introduction to Proposal Writing
Are you new to proposal writing or want a quick refresher? If so, you don’t want to miss one of our most popular classes!
This newly revised class will provide you with an overview of how to write a standard project proposal to a foundation. It will include:
- The basic elements of a proposal
- The “do’s” and “don’ts” of writing and submitting a proposal
- How to follow up whether the answer is yes or no
An optional 30 minute exercise will be provided after class for developing a proposal outline.

Join us on a tour of the Foundation Center’s web site, GrantSpace (www.grantspace.org), which offers a FREE one-stop location to find information and resources specifically designed for grantseekers.
Everything You Need to Know About Non-Profits
This workshop, presented by SCORE, will guide you through the beginning stages of forming a nonprofit. You will learn how to form a nonprofit corp. and register with states as a charity. Further topics include: obtaining tax-exempt status, fundraising, marketing, the importance of volunteers, and creating a business plan for your nonprofit organization.
