Kids and teens are invited to show off their Explore Memphis creations August 2, 2014 at Central Library! It’s okay to be a showoff Saturday, August 2, 2014, 10 am – 2 pm at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library (3030 Poplar Avenue, meeting rooms A – C). The Explore Memphis Showcase is a chance for kids and teens to “show” their families and friends what they’ve learned or created over the summer. (No registration is required.)

“Customers who made tie-dye T-shirts, bracelets, drawings, robots, or other items are asked to bring them to Central Library for display in our Explore Memphis gallery. The day will be filled with learning and recreational activities for children and teens,” explained Janae Pitts-Murdock, event planner and teen services coordinator.

To cap a summer of fun, education, and exploration, customers will enjoy a technology game zone, Memphis trivia, face painting, balloon art, a magic show, a popcorn experiment, dance performances, prize drawings, and more. It’s the perfect finale to a summer full of Library programs and family fun!

“Explore Memphis has been very successful over the past several weeks, encouraging children and teens to read outside of their comfort zones,” added Jason Sharp, Explore Memphis organizer and senior youth services librarian at Whitehaven Branch Library. “Parents were also thrilled to discover all the free places and events they could visit with their children this summer.”

As the season of exploration nears an end, customers can take a nostalgic look back at summer thrills during the Explore Memphis Showcase – the first of its kind at the Memphis Public Library & Information Center.

Pitts-Murdock concluded, “All summer, customers have been building their awareness of Memphis landmarks and attractions while reading books, magazines, and other educational material. The Showcase will be a fitting end to a dynamic summer!”
