‘Beautiful Ruins’ Author Jess Walter Slated for Memphis Library Foundation’s Annual Libration Event

Event ‘chapters’ offer unique experience with New York Times bestselling author

'Beautiful Ruins' author Jess Walter is coming to Central Library for Libration 2014!The Memphis Library Foundation announced New York Times bestselling author Jess Walter will join Beautiful Ruins fans and Library supporters during the Foundation’s annual Libration event. The event, which features three “chapters,” takes place Thursday, October 16 and Friday, October 17, and benefits the Memphis Public Library.

The event kicks off with Chapter One on October 16, where Library supporters are invited to an exclusive evening with Walter at the Galloway Mansion from 7 to 10 pm. Guests will enjoy gourmet food, premium wine, and a full bar during the intimate experience. Tickets to Chapter One of Libration are $200. Chapter Two brings Walter to the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library (3030 Poplar Avenue) for a public talk and book signing Friday, October 17 at 11 am. This event is free and open to the public. Libration concludes with Chapter Three on Friday from 7 to 10 pm again at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library. The celebration features live music, a silent auction, dinner buffet, beer garden, wine, a signature cocktail, games, and a silent disco. Guests are invited to dress as a favorite book character if they would like. Tickets are $75 per person or $125 for a VIP experience with a private lounge, champagne, and bar.

“Libration is our biggest and most exciting event of the year, and we know Jess Walter is going to be a huge hit,” said Diane Jalfon, executive director of the Memphis Library Foundation. “Chapter One offers an opportunity for an intimate meet-and-greet with the author, but Chapter Three promises to be an evening filled with great fun for all! We’re particularly excited that the silent disco is back this year!”

Beautiful Ruins, released in 2012, spent 41 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list and was named Book of the Year in 2012 by Esquire Magazine.
