Need an escape? Try the Library’s Wider Angle Film series. For an hour or two, you can get a world-away. The summer schedule features independent movies from the U.S., Europe, and Latin America. Admission is free.

Find Last-Minute Mother's Day Gifts at Friends of the Raleigh Branch Library Book Sale

The Raleigh Branch Library, 3157 Powers, is holding a one-day book sale on Saturday, May 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is a great place to find last-minute Mother’s Day gifts. No two gently-used book sales are alike and you never know what treasure you will discover. The Friends of the Library have hand-picked novels, cookbooks, children’s books, CDs, movies, and more—only the best donated items make it into the sale.

Selections are budget friendly, too. Hardcover books are priced at $2; paperbacks are $.50

Genealogy Workshops - Who Do You Think You Are?

The popular television show Who do you think you are? has inspired many to look deeper into their family lineage.  However, for Sylvester Lewis, 80, his journey started in the 1990s when he retired from the post office.

Big June Book Sale - June 11 & June 12

The one and only BIG Friends of the Library Book Sale is scheduled for Friday, June 11 and Saturday, June 12 at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, 3030 Poplar. The sale is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Author and columnist Rheta Grimsley Johnson Returns to the Library for an "Enchanted" Afternoon

Bring mom for a special Mother's Day treat at the Library.  On Sunday, May 9 at 2 p.m., nationally syndicated columnist and author Rheta Grimsley Johnson signs books and talks about her latest: Enchanted Evening Barbie and the Second Coming (NewSouth Books).

Andrew McNamara of NewSouth Books says Johnson's memoir is timely and relevant as 2010 marks the 50th anniversary of Mattel's Barbie.

Celebrating Volunteers In Action
