Travel Requirement: Temporary Duty Travel is about 10% of the time

Work Schedule: Full-time when not attending classes (i.e., summers and/or co-op semesters).
You may work full-time or part-time as school schedule allows. Work hours are flexible and will
typically be Monday through Friday.
Eligibility/Type of degree we’re seeking: Current student enrolled in a technology program.
Typical duties of student position: This announcement is seeking three (3) positions to working
directly for one of the shops (Metal Unit, Shops Unit and Yard and Docks unit). Student will be
required to performs manual, technical and technical aid-type tasks in support of various
functions within the assigned section. Performs a variety of routine manual duties and
responsibilities at remotely located District pumping plants and in and around a marine
maintenance and repair facility consisting of seven shops (welding, tool making pipe fitting,
carpentry, electrical, outboard repair, and heavy equipment). Assignments involve the
performance of common tasks related to the work using moderately heavy physical effort
(100%). Assists in individual shops by sweeping, cleaning, moving supplies and materials, and
running errands on an as-need basis. Provide assistance to craftsmen in shops in performing
their work assignments. This can include, but not limited to, moving materials: retrieving tools;
handling tools; relocating flash shields and operating etc. Performs basic cleaning and oiling of
equipment, machinery, and other similar items in and around the shop facilities. Update and
maintain maintenance logs. Performs other duties as assigned.
Competencies needed for student positions: Demonstrates manual skill to lift and move
moderately heavy objects. Also demonstrates manual skill and knowledge to safely operate
simple power equipment, have the ability to use basic hand tools, knowledge of routine
maintenance procedures for power equipment operated. Receive specific oral and written
instructions regarding what to do and when to do tasks. Perform regularly assigned duties with
designated time frames or schedules. Responsible to check and perform simple maintenance of
the equipment that is used. Have the ability to exert moderately heavy physical effort to
perform tasks as lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds).
Frequently lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Work is
performed inside and outside. When working outside may be exposed to all kinds of weather
conditions. Inside work is often accomplished in office buildings or in well lighted, heated, and
ventilated areas such as warehouse, loading docks, or trade shops. Follow safety procedures
and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses and steel-toe
shoes to avoid possible hazards in the work area. Maybe required to work other than normal
duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. May be required to work
