Blues Hall of Fame is seeking a Visitor Services Associate (Part-time Weekends)
Summary of Position• The Blues Foundation seeks an enthusiastic and people-oriented individual to fill the role of Visitor Services Associate for the Blues Hall of Fame museum and retail operation in downtown Memphis, TN. This position will report to the Blues Hall of Fame’s Director of Operations and Programming.
Responsibilities:• Foster a warm and welcoming environment to Blues Hall of Fame visitors by greeting guests and providing information regarding museum exhibits, programs, and membership with the Blues Foundation. • Sell tickets for admission to the Blues Hall of Fame and process transactions in the Blues Hall’s gift shop. May also assist in inventory, ordering and receiving merchandise. • Maintain a clean, neat, and well-stocked work area. Keep all public areas stocked with brochures and promotional materials. • Learn and take part in daily programming geared towards expanding the visitor experience in the museum. • Maintain a daily visitor log sheet, recording desired information as needed. • Manage cash drawer in accordance with museum policies and procedures. Prepare daily sales reports. • Manage group check-ins, providing instruction and assistance in group activities. • Monitor museum throughout the day and assist guests with their needs and minimize disturbances. Report any technical problems immediately. • Maintain high level of museum cleanliness, including routine/basic disinfection of common areas in line with COVID-19 safety compliance. • Answer phones, assisting callers with information about exhibitions, programs, amenities, membership, and other matters. Transfer callers to appropriate extensions. • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and trainings. • Perform other tasks, as assigned. • Maintain flexibility to work days, nights, and weekends, as well as holidays.
Qualifications• High School diploma or GED required. One to two years post high school education preferred. • At least one year of experience in museum visitor services, hospitality, or equivalent customer service roles. Retail experience preferred. • Interest and/or knowledge of the blues, with an eagerness to learn about the Blues Hall of Fame’s exhibitions and programs. • A professional, warm, and positive attitude, coupled with strong customer service, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with the general public and resolve issues quickly and effectively.
