JOB TITLE: ELECTRONICS COMMUNICATIONS TECHNICIAN

Install, maintain, test and repair the Division’s two-way
radio communication system, color video recording
equipment and other diversified electronic equipment;
locate electronic interference. Operate infrared scanner to
perform heat surveys of transmission/distribution/network
systems and substations; locate and report equipment/
components over-heating such as transformers, switches
and capacitor banks; recheck completed maintenance
repairs.
Associate degree in Electrical, Electronic or
Telecommunication Engineering Technology. Must
successfully complete Color Blind 1 Test. Must
successfully complete Placement (Group 004 “Electronics
Technicians”)/Performance Exercises. Must have a valid
driver’s license from state of residence.
Works in shop and outside. Works in proximity of
electrical equipment in substations and walk-in/
underground vaults. Subject to medium lifting, climbing
ladders, working with chemicals and standing for extended
periods. May work from bucket truck.

JOB TITLE: BILINGUAL SERVICE ADVISOR

Duties: Process service requests, billing/miscellaneous inquiries and emergency calls
from customers within specific qualified parameters via telephone or web mail;
and effectively handle calls from irate/hostile customers.
Drug screening, with negative test results, is required prior to entry into this
classification. Must have successfully completed Data Entry Exercises, Group C.
Must have successfully completed Placement (Group 007 “Customer Contact
Representatives”)/Performance Exercises and Customer Service Simulation Test.
Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence.
Must be fluent in Spanish.
Works in office. Subject to stressful environment handling customers using
abusive language, noise, eye fatigue and sitting for long periods of time. Shift
work required. Subject occasionally to mandatory overtime.

Duties: Inspect new/existing residential structures and make
recommendations to residential customers, home builders,
property owners/managers concerning methods, techniques
or technologies to conserve energy; perform inspections of
residential and multi-family rental units in order to insure
compliance with the Rental Ordinance Section of the
Memphis Housing Code; and investigate high electric, gas
and/or water bill complaints.
Associate degree. Must have 2 years of construction or
residential energy management experience. Must receive
Home Energy Rating System (HERS) certification within 6
months of first taking the exam. Must have a valid driver’s
license from state of residence.
Works inside and outside under good conditions. May be subject to construction
hazards. Climbing, crawling, crouching and kneeling required. Subject to
medium lifting.

JOB TITLE: ELECTRIC SYSTEM OPERATOR 2

An intermediate level job to monitor and control the operation of the entire electric system:
transmission, distribution, substation, switching, etc. by use of the Supervisory Control and Data
Acquisition System (SCADA); operate the system in a safe and reliable manner; communicate with
Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) under normal and emergency conditions; monitor and maintain
equipment status, system voltages, system and transmission line megawatt (MW) and megavar
(MVAR) loadings, and system frequency in full compliance with the North American Electric
Reliability Corporation (NERC) reliability standards and MLGW processes and procedures.
Drug screening, with negative test results, is required prior to entry into this classification. Associate
degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology with 2 years of experience as an Electric
Systems Operator 1 or high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) with 6 years
of experience in electric engineering, distribution or operations journeyman level to include 2 years
of the 6 years as an Electric Systems Operator 1 and mastered real/reactive load control, electric
system normal/emergency procedures, and proper analysis of protective relaying targets. Must have
a North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Certification or 6 years of experience as
an Electric System Operator with NERC Certification.

Must have successfully completed Basic Electricity and pass MLGW’s Color Blind Test 2. Must
have advanced knowledge of power systems. Must have the ability to operate the electric system in
full compliance with applicable NERC reliability standards, processes and procedures as they relate
to MLGW. All external Electric Systems Operator 2 candidates will have 6 months to
successfully complete the TVA/MLGW Power System Workbook and MLGW Relaying
Workbook. Must successfully complete NIMS Training within 1 year of entering job. Must have a
valid driver’s license from state of residence.
Works in office under good conditions. Subject to light lifting of maps/books, eye fatigue, sitting for
long periods of time, and stressful environment including constant monitoring of computer system and
occasionally making trips to electric system facilities/construction sites. Shift work is required and
work a double shift as needed.

Repair and maintain mechanical equipment and manufacture or
repair various metal items.

into this classification. Must have successfully completed approved
Maintenance Machinist Apprenticeship Program or equivalent
experience and training. Must successfully complete Placement
(Group 03A Mechanics”)/Performance Exercises. Must have valid
driver’s license from state of residence.
Works inside and outside. Subject to balancing, climbing/falling
from ladders/high structures, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling,
crawling, reaching and standing for long periods of time while
working on equipment, cuts/burns working with industrial
machinery and heavy lifting.
