Library Customer Service Assistant

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under general supervision of an Agency Manager or other designated supervisory personnel to provide public information services at the general reference desk in the areas of children, teen, and adult references and readers’ advisory to the public. Works at various library agencies to assist with the collection and development of library materials. Recommends appropriate reading materials for adults, teens and children to library management. Works in teams with various library personnel to perform professional library services, such as assisting customers with computers, identifying books in a collection, etc. Provides basic circulation desk services, as needed. Assists with planning and/or conducting programs for children, teens, and adults. Lifts and carries books, supplies, or materials to assist customers. Stocks library shelves with books and reading materials. Assists in training staff and volunteers, as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, General or Interdisciplinary Studies, Adult/Youth Education, or related field of study from an accredited four (4) year college/university. One (1) year experience in customer service related work preferred; or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.

Customer Service Librarian

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the direction of the Agency Manager and/or other designated personnel to provide public information services and provide reader’s advisory services at the general reference desk to the public. Performs professional duties in the area of collections development and programming.  Provides general assistance in library usage to customers using print and technology services. Maintains and develops the collection through regular assessment and weeding. Orders, maintains and develops library materials in specified collection areas.  Assists in training new staff members in agency procedures and processes. Assists the public with the use of library materials and equipment. Attends training, workshops, seminars and independent reading of professional literature and listservs. Supports the system policies, procedures, goals and objectives through positive customer service. Participates in developing the agency’s goals and objectives. Coordinates and supervises the work of volunteers as directed. Travels throughout the building and pushes fully loaded carts and shelves materials, on an as needed basis. Creates, plans, and conducts programs in the agency, region, and system as an assigned Librarian.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited library school and one (1) year of related professional library experience; or Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts  and two (2) years of related professional library or customer service experience; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience which enables one to perform the essential duties of the job.
