Ice Bound: A Doctor’s Incredible Battle for Survival at The South Pole, by Dr. Jerri Nielsen with Maryanne Vollers, is an amazing biographical account of Doctor Jerri Nielsen’s incredible battle against breast cancer and a close group of friends who administered her treatments while confined to the South Pole.  Antarctica is a cold, isolated continent, where Doctor Jerri Nielsen chose to be stationed for a year at the South Pole. As the only doctor and medical personnel at Amundsen-Scott South Pole station, Doctor Nielsen would be treating a group of 40 researchers and support staff. Stuck in the Antarctic winter, there is no way out for treatments at home until spring. The only communication with the outside world is by radio and internet communications via satellite. Although the group is mostly confined to the station, they have time to explore the dangerous beautiful world around them. The biography is a testimony to her her and her friends’ courage.
