ELECTRIC DISTRIBUTION OPERATOR 1
An entry level job to monitor and control the multiple operations of the electric distribution
system by use of the Computer-Aided Dispatch Electric System (CARES); responsible for
maximizing system efficiency and minimizing service interruptions; coordinate departmental
work with appropriate departments, contractors, customers and other external entities.
Associate degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology or high school diploma or
General Education Development (G.E.D.) with 4 years of experience in craft/technical field
related to the engineering, construction, maintenance or operation of the electric distribution or
operations systems. Must have successfully completed Basic Electricity, Operator Placement
Test, and Color-Blind Test 2. Must have successfully completed NIMS Training within one year
of entering job. Must have basic knowledge of power systems. Must successfully complete
Electric Distribution Operator 1 Training Manual within one year of entering the job. Must have
a valid driver’s license from state of residence.
Works in office under good conditions. Subject to sitting for long periods of time, during
storms/outages, eye fatigue, hearing due to radio communications, bending, stooping/crouching
to get maps, and light lifting of maps. Shift work required.
