About the Virtual Camps
Thank you for your interest in 5 for 5, nonprofit and the CB Seed Foundation’s 2020 “Literacy to Success” Summer Camp sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Memphis Public Libraries!
“Literacy to Success” designed the program to help non-readers and children who have difficulty reading become self-confident readers. This reading program is not designed for children and youth who are reading on grade level. Participants in “Literacy to Success” will learn how to read fluently with consistent participation in the program.
Experienced instructors will lead the Literacy Camp. Campers will meet Monday to Friday from 10am to 11:30 am each day. Due to social distancing regulations, camps will be conducted remotely only. 5 for 5/CB Seed will provide campers with a packet to be used simultaneously from home with the program as instructions are given virtually. Parents and students will attend a 1-hour live video session to receive instruction, and ask questions. Our goal is to insure every child that completes our summer literacy program leaves confidently with the skills to read fluently. Students who do not respect the integrity of the classroom will not be able to continue with the camp session. We ask that parents review the rules listed below with your child thoroughly.
During our Camp video calls please avoid:
- foul language or inappropriate remarks
- sharing inappropriate media
- being intentionally disruptive
- inappropriately dressed (a full shirt with no cleavage showing; no swimwear; no body parts exposed)
- leaving the camera’s line of sight to engage in other activities while the class is in session
Each camper will be required to be on camera for the entire session in every video call, provided by “Literacy to Success.” Students will be sent a reminder or link to join the session before each meeting via the email the student provides. It is important that parents and students check their email daily. Email will be the primary source of communication outside of class for updates and important links, so make sure the email you provide is active and frequently used.
