At Last! Friends of the Library present Spring Book Sale

After a two-year hiatus, the Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale will take place from April 28th thru May 1st at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library. It will be the first book sale the volunteer group has held since the pandemic began.

“If you love books and you and you like to go to book stores and pick things up, you will be in heaven,” said Geoff Hopkins,  Book Sale Co-Chair. Hopkins went on to say, “We have thousands and thousands of very inexpensive books in great condition.”

Friends of the Library volunteers have been working hard preparing for this event. Thousands of books are available for sale.

“We are really out of space down here because we usually pack for a book sale every six months,” said Hopkins.

“We’ve got a lot of books, and we hope it will be a really good sale,”  said Mary Aronov, Book Sale Co-Chair.

If you are looking for a bargain,  the Library will sell all book sale books for $2 or less. The money raised will help support Memphis Public Libraries.

The book sale begins April 28th with a preview sale for Friends of the Library members. The preview sale will run from 4 PM to 7 PM. It opens to the general public Friday, April 29th, from 12 to 7 PM. It continues Saturday, April 30th, from 10 AM to 5 PM. The $5 bag sale closes out the event on Sunday, May 1st. The bag sale allows you to pay $5 for a whole bag of books.

“People who want a real bargain can come on Sunday,” said Aronov.

The book sale is the largest fundraiser the Friends of the Library holds.

“You don’t know what you are going to find. But, if you are the person who enjoys a hunt for unusual books, you’ve got to come,” said Hopkins.
