About the Cornelia Crenshaw Memorial Library

Originally known as the Vance Library, this branch opened in 1939 as the first dedicated library to serve the African American community. The original building was lost to fire in 1978 and was rebuilt on its current site in 1981. The library was renamed in honor of community activist, Cornelia Crenshaw, in 1997.

The building has 6,690 square feet and holds about 20,000 books and other items. View digitized items of the Cornelia Crenshaw Memorial Library in our Library History Collection.
