Technology at the Library


Desktop Computers

Each Library offers computers for browsing the Internet (including email), accessing information online, or for use with word processing etc.  Computer reservation requires an updated library card. Branch computers can be reserved for 1 hour. Many of the computers at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library may be reserved for 2 hours.

Software available:

  • Windows 10
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox

The Library Internet Use Policy and the Computer Assistance Policy apply at all locations.  Computer classes are also available.

Printing from Desktop Computers

Each library offers black and white and color printers for the desktop computers.  Cost:  $0.20/page Black and White Printer; $1.00/page Color Printer.  Click here for more information on our Print Management System.

Laptops

Each library has laptops available to checkout for use in-house for up to a two-hour check out period.  

Laptops are not connected to the printers.  

Wi-Fi Access

The Library provides free Wi-Fi.  Look for the network:  Library_Public

What you should know:

  • Printing – You cannot print directly from your personal computer, but you can save to a storage device (disk, USB modem) then use a library computer and the library debit card printing system.
  • Blocked sites – Wi-Fi and plug-in use is subject to the same filtering software as library computers, so some sites will be blocked based on content.

Copy Machines

Each library provides copy machines.  Cost: $0.20/page

Microfilm readers are available on the 4th floor of the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library.
