Trying to search for nonprofit grants from home? Throughout 2021, Foundation Directory Online (Essential) for grants to nonprofits will be available remotely through our website. Beginning March 25, 2021, users will register for an account and sign up for a day pass. Users can get a 24-hour day pass once every 30 days. Call (901) 415-2734 for information on how to access FDO Essential remotely.
Welcome to the Nonprofit Resource Center, a special collection located in the Business/Sciences Department (3rd floor, Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library). For over 40 years, we’ve supported the Memphis community as a Funding Information Network partner of the Foundation Center by Candid. As an Access member of this international network, Memphis Public Libraries provides free access to the best and most comprehensive information available on foundation and corporate giving.
For more information, you can call the Business/Sciences Department at (901) 415-2734 during library operating hours.

Whether you are inspired to begin a new nonprofit venture or would like to strengthen an existing one, we have a wealth of information available. The Nonprofit Resource Center maintains a core collection of print materials as well as free onsite access to Foundation Directory Online (Professional) at a dedicated nonprofit research computer in the Business/Sciences Department at Central. To begin using Foundation Directory Online (Professional), visit Central Library and speak to a librarian in the Business/Sciences Department.
In 2019, Foundation Center and GuideStar merged into a single organization called Candid. Foundation Directory Online, Candid Learning (formerly GrantSpace), the Funding Information Network, GuideStar’s organization research tools, and other existing services remain properties of Candid. Memphis Public Libraries continues to provide free access to FDO and other nonprofit resources.
Foundation Center by Candid staff are also available to answer any research- or nonprofit-related questions via email or live chat.
