The Metal Museum is seeking an experienced Blacksmithing & Fabrication Manager to help oversee the operations of its Blacksmithing & Fabrication Studios. This full-time leadership position combines hands-on metalwork, studio management, education, mentorship, and commissioned projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising apprentices, interns, volunteers, and studio personnel
- Teaching blacksmithing and fabrication classes, workshops, and demonstrations
- Managing commissioned projects from design through installation
- Fabricating, forging, welding, and finishing metalwork
- Overseeing studio equipment, inventory, safety, and OSHA compliance
- Coordinating project schedules, budgets, staffing, and client communication
Required qualifications include:
- MFA or equivalent professional experience in blacksmithing and fabrication
- At least eight years of professional metalworking, blacksmithing, or fabrication experience
- At least three years of supervisory or management experience
- Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and stick welding
- Strong skills in blacksmithing, steel fabrication, and non-ferrous metals
Experience with architectural metalwork, instruction, Adobe Illustrator, CAD, or 3D modeling software is also preferred.
This is a full-time, salaried position with PTO, health insurance, and a 3% SIMPLE IRA employer match after two years. The regular schedule includes one weekend day per week, with occasional nights and additional weekends required. Salary is based on experience and ability.
