SCHWAB’S NATURE SOAP

A. Schwab Soap Advertisement

Did you know that A. Schwab had their own beauty line? Schwab first began advertising their Nature Soap in the Commercial Appeal in 1922, and after just a few years, the store had recruited sales agents from all over the region – many in the Mid-South area, but some as far south as Louisiana. They functioned a bit like their own army of Avon ladies.

By mid-1924, the store made regular monthly Schwab Nature Beauty Aids shipments to sales agents like J.A. Ogletree in Durant, Mississippi, hosted a Schwab Nature Soap “word contest,” and placed small ads in local and national newspapers.

The advertising materials the store produced are fascinating, fun to read, and well, pretty ‘neat.’ We love the illustrated brochure that says you can use it on anything! Clean your baby! Clean your toilet! Take a look at some of the Nature Beauty Aids materials here.
