Sankofa African Diaspora Festival

On Saturday February 24th at the Cossitt branch, we hosted the first Sankofa African Diaspora Festival. We partnered with the nonprofit Black Children and Black Authors, who gave away many children’s books at the festival. We had several types of live performances: dance, music, story readings, poetry and more–all originating from or celebrating the African diaspora and the representation of it in Memphis.

There were also many vendors who displayed wares from all over, of many varieties. During the day we saw coffee, jewelry, many types of clothing, all manner of art, food–it was like a large market!

Finally, our in house restaurant Dos Hermanos Kitchen prepared diaspora inspired dishes as specials for the event, and they did so well they ran out of food!
