About the Cossitt Library

The Cossitt Library was the first public library in Memphis. It opened in 1893 and was named in recognition of former-Memphian Frederick Cossitt, whose three daughters donated the money for a public library in their father’s honor.

It has 5,800 square feet and holds about 13,000 books and other items.
