Marilyn reviews BRINGING ELIZABETH HOME: A JOURNEY OF FAITH by Ed and Lois Smart, (Crown Publishing Group)

Parents Ed and Lois were awakened the morning of June 5, 2002  to their daughter Mary Katherine’s screaming, ” Elizabeth is gone!” After a frantic search of the house for her and realizing of  their other daughter was actually gone,  they called the police. For nine months she was gone without a trace.

The kidnapping of a fourteen year girl named Elizabeth Smart by an intruder terrified the nation in 2002.  The manhunt was on to find her kidnapper, thanks to an onslaught of volunteers assisting the family, legal experts, and the police who were already searching for this young girl. To rally together and show support in her community,  blue ribbons covered bushes, houses and trees in Salt Lake City, Utah

This particular story is not about Elizabeth Smart but instead about her parents, Ed and Lois.  This is an account of their coping, resilient faith, and undying hope for their daughter’s return.  Both of her parent’s emotional ups and downs are relayed until on March 12, 2003 Elizabeth was finally found.
