With 60 authors participating in Bookstock, we can’t guarantee traffic to any specific table or ensure book sales; however, following these best practices can help you stand out and attract more visitors.
Create an Eye-Catching Table Display
- Use Bold Colors and Graphics: Choose decorations that are vibrant and visually appealing. An eye-catching banner or large poster featuring your book cover can help draw attention from across the room.
- Incorporate Multiple Levels: Use stands, crates, or display racks to create different levels on your table. This adds dimension and ensures that your books, signs, and promotional items are easily visible.
- Feature Your Book Covers: Display multiple copies of your book, with some facing outwards for easy viewing. Consider using book stands or easels to make them stand upright, creating a polished look.
- Add Personal Touches: Include items that reflect your book’s theme, genre, or message. For example, if your book is about gardening, add some small potted plants or seed packets. This can help create a more immersive experience for visitors.
Provide Engaging Marketing Materials
- Have Business Cards or Bookmarks: Hand out business cards, bookmarks, or flyers with information about your book, website, and social media handles. Make sure your contact details are easily accessible so attendees can follow up with you later.
- Offer Freebies or Giveaways: Consider providing small, budget-friendly giveaways, such as stickers, pens, or postcards with your book cover on them. These items can help make your table memorable and encourage people to stop by.
- Display an Author Bio and Book Synopsis: Make sure your author bio and book synopsis are visible. You can use the stand provided for this.
Create Interactive Elements to Draw People In
- Host a Mini Contest or Giveaway: Consider a raffle or contest that encourages visitors to leave their email address or follow you on social media for a chance to win a prize (e.g., a signed copy of your book). This can help you build your contact list for future promotion.
- Incorporate Multimedia: If you have a book trailer, author interview, or slideshow, consider using a tablet or laptop to play it at your table. This can add a dynamic element to your display and attract curious attendees. Please let us know as soon as possible if you will require access to a power outlet. You can email Alexandra Farmer at alexandra.farmer@memphistn.gov to request access to a power outlet.
- Offer Signed Copies and Personalized Messages: Let people know you’ll be signing books or writing personalized messages for each purchase. This added touch can make buying your book feel more special.
Leverage Your Network to Drive Traffic
- Invite Friends and Family to Support You: Encourage your network to come to the event and visit your table. The more people around your booth, the more likely others will stop to see what’s drawing the crowd.
- Promote Your Participation on Social Media: Share event details with your followers and encourage them to visit your table. Use the official event hashtags and tag Memphis Public Libraries in your posts for additional visibility.
Things to Keep in Mind
- Understand That Traffic Varies: With so many authors and attractions, we cannot guarantee consistent foot traffic to every table or ensure book sales. However, using these best practices will help improve your chances of standing out and attracting attendees.
- Follow Up After the Event: Collect contact information from interested attendees and follow up with a thank you email or a reminder about your book. Staying in touch can help convert interest into future sales.
Successful Table Examples
Most importantly, have fun! By implementing these strategies, you can create an inviting and memorable display that attracts visitors, increases engagement, and helps you make the most of your Bookstock experience.
