The Memphis Public Library is launching Heart of 901, a new media project designed to give you a platform to highlight the best of our city.

Read for the Record 20th Anniversary

For its milestone 20th anniversary, Jumpstart’s Read for the Record will transform into an extended 20-week celebration, inviting educators, families, children, authors, and more to engage with its rich literary history.

Beginning on October 13, 2025, and culminating in the annual Read for the Record Day on February 26, 2026! To volunteer or request a read-aloud, click above!

In tandem with the “Continuing Education & Lifelong Learning series”, Memphis Public Libraries is launching “Writer’s Edition: Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning”, designed to allow writers to enhance their writing skills both personally and professionally.

Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library
Dec. 9, 11, 12, 15, 19

Join us in the lobby area of the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library to welcome in the holiday season with music performances by Memphis’ talented youth. There will be hot cocoa and festive treats to enjoy while listening, so bring the whole family down for some holiday cheer!

Frayser Library
Dec. 19, 4 PM – 5:45 PM

The Frayser Branch Library invites teens to a movie screening featuring a holiday-themed horror-comedy. The film follows a family who, after losing their Christmas spirit, accidentally summon a dark folkloric figure, leading to a suspenseful and imaginative story filled with humor, fantasy, and holiday atmosphere.  

Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library
Dec. 20, 2 PM – 5 PM

This month’s book selection is the 1979 thriller Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp. In the book, retired NYPD detective Joe Leland is visiting his daughter’s workplace in a Los Angeles skyscraper on Christmas Eve when the building is taken over by a group of terrorists. A barefoot Leland is forced into action in order to save the day. 

Participants are invited to read the book, then come for a screening of the hit 1988 movie adaptation directed by John McTiernan, starring Bruce Willis as the hero and the amazing Alan Rickman as the terrorist leader.

Cordova Library
Dec. 27, 10:30 PM – 12 PM

ChatGPT and similar AI technology can be powerful tools for productivity, but they can also lie confidently and lead you astray. Learn about AI hallucinations and how to tell fact AI fact from fiction in this beginner-friendly class. We’ll have live demos with AI tools.

Frayser Library
Saturdays in Oct., Nov., and Dec.

Need a hand with homework? The Frayser Library is here to help! Students in 1st through 3rd grade are invited to get one-on-one assistance from Ms. Rebekah on their homework assignments!

Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library
Every 3rd Saturday
11 AM – 1 PM

Do you love reading AND doggies?! Come and read to a sweet, friendly pup and practice your reading skills! Every third Saturday at the Central Library in the Children’s story time room from 11 – 1 pm. Register for your 10-15 minute spot and bring your book with you. Books will also be available during the program.
