This year, the con will be taking place at the Raleigh branch on Saturday, May 31st.
For its milestone 20th anniversary, Jumpstart’s Read for the Record will transform into an extended 20-week celebration, inviting educators, families, children, authors, and more to engage with its rich literary history.
Beginning on October 13, 2025, and culminating in the annual Read for the Record Day on February 26, 2026! To volunteer or request a read-aloud, click above!
New year! New reading goals! Get back into reading or take part in a fun incentive to read more! Read 1,000 pages over the challenge period, complete fun reading challenges, and check in monthly at the library for instant prizes.

Learn the essentials of comic creation, from character design and perspective drawing to scripting and inking. Each participant will complete a full comic page with cover art and concept sketches to be featured in a printed teen anthology. This club is perfect for aspiring teen artists who love storytelling! No prior experience required.

Join us for the music of Harper & Harrison! As part of our concert series, Sounds from the Stacks, we are inviting the public to enjoy the vocal stylings of Memphis’ own Yolanda Harper. Her primary genres are country, classic, bluegrass, & contemporary. Yolanda also performs R&B classics, Latin (Spanish), blues, world music, and even children’s songs. All ages welcome!

High schoolers who might be dealing with grief, bullying, anxiety, depression, identity struggles, or ANYTHING, ALL THE THINGS can come and blow off steam about the litany of issues facing them in the modern world’s stressful times. We will have a trained professional to offer guidance and keep things flowing in a healthy direction in a group therapy setting.

Looking for a fun activity to do before Valentine’s Day? Or perhaps you are looking to start a new hobby. Well, come on over to the Orange Mound Library for “Pinch Pot Pottery” where you can mold and decorate your own small customized ceramic pots for yourself or a loved one. No need for heavy ceramic wheels and intricate tools, just your hands, clay, and a little water. And maybe some little ceramic paint and some mosaic pieces for a little pazazz.

For January, I Read That Movie @ the Library, is reading Selma 1965: The March that Changed the South, Charles Fager’s 1974 book about the 1965 Selma, Alabama, voting rights movement. Fager participated in the protest marches as a young staff member at the MLK, Jr.-led Southern Christian Leadership Council at the time, and the book combines his personal recollections of the movement with historical research into the events leading up to, during, and after the pivotal Selma marches.

Do you love reading AND doggies?! Come and read to a sweet, friendly pup and practice your reading skills! Every third Saturday at the Central Library in the Children’s story time room from 11 – 1 pm. Register for your 10-15 minute spot and bring your book with you. Books will also be available during the program.
